Aldie Mill

The oldest structures in the present day Aldie Mill complex were constructed between 1807 and 1809 in Loudoun County, Virginia, and the mill operated until 1971. It was donated to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation in 1981, and the Foundation has been restoring the mill to serve as an operating example of an early 19th-century wheat and corn mill.

Silver Lake Mill, built in 1832 to grind corn into meal, has a rich history associated with the German Baptist Brethren and their Mennonite neighbors. The mill is located close to I-81 in the town of Dayton and is well worth a visit. Burnt by General Custer in the Civil War, it was first restored in 1866 and then again more recently by LDA Creations

Baylor's Mill

Baylor’s Mill is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley in Augusta County, Va. Similar in structure to neighboring Wade’s Mill, it dates to around 1814. The English-born Baylor’s purchased the land in 1797 from Peter Hanger, a German descendant who may have built the mill.

Bennett's Mill

Bennett’s Mill features the mill and covered bridge in Greenup County, Kentucky. The bridge was constructed in 1855 and is still in use today, while the mill is no longer standing.

The Red Mill is located in Clinton, New Jersey. The earliest section of this mill was built in 1810 to process wool. Today the mill is part of The Red Mill Museum Village and houses a large portion of the museum's collection

Kline Mill shows the Oliver Evan Kline Mill, located south of Winchester, Virginia. The mill is perhaps the best example of a mill that operates on the "Evan's System" and the original machinery, first installed in 1795, remains undisturbed since the last days of operation.

McCormick's Mill, Raphine, VA

Cyrus Hall McCormick invented the first successful reaper and founded the harvesting machine industry. This, the world's first successful mechanical reaper, opened a new era in agriculture, an age of mechanization that changed life on the farm. Visitors are welcome to tour the McCormick farm in Walnut Grove, including the historic blacksmith shop turned museum, grist mill and manor house, which are National Historic Landmarks. The mill was last utilized for grinding wheat in 1931. It is believed to date prior to 1800. Its typical overshot wheel, generating about 17 horsepower, is propelled by water from the pond across the road.

Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, the Old Mill is one of the most photo-graphed in the country and over 1,000,000 visitors make a stop at this Smoky Mountain landmark each year. It still functions as it did when it was built in 1830, daily grinding thousands of pounds of grains with every turn of its giant water-powered wheel.
